Future Direction 2015-2019
Message from the Bishop of North Queensland
It is hard to believe that the first edition of Future Direction 2010 to 2014 has served its purpose. It only seems like yesterday when some lay people were invited to the first day of the Clergy Conference back in 2009 to brainstorm the ministry direction for the Diocese. This day was followed by Regional Consultations with many people providing input; thus the 2010 to 2014 booklet.
At the 2014 Synod there was a session on the Saturday afternoon when the Synod was divided into groups to explore various areas of the 2010 to 2014 document and revise them so that they would be meaningful for the next five years. The feedback was positive. While some areas of ministry were affirmed, there was input to encourage us to explore new ways of ministry through Fresh Expressions and other ministry avenues. I thank Mrs Rosie Corney, The Reverend Jeff Coop and Mrs Dorothy Stephens who recorded the feedback overnight so that people could refer to the results of our discussions on the Sunday morning of Synod.
This booklet has been the work of the Diocese. I thank everyone for their contribution. As I mentioned in the first edition, The Diocese of North Queensland not only has a Future; but it has a Future with Hope.
Concerning the title, the years have changed, but the rest has remained the same, "Future Direction". There is only one direction, and that is, God's direction. As the Vision states, "We will be known as faithful to God through our generous sharing of God's hope and love".
This resource is also a prayer tool. As mentioned last time, parishes are invited to study the document and select certain areas of ministry in the light of your parish context so that the goals and actions can become ministry and mission realities in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I also thank Mrs Dorothy Stephens, Mr David Porter and Mr Ed Bray for all their work and effort in collating the feedback from the 2014 Synod and Diocesan Council, so that this booklet could be launched at this Synod.
May this ministry tool inspire us to proclaim the Kingdom of God effectively and let us never forget the words of Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV), "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
